Our Story
Where Mist, Soil, and Spirit Meet
High on the mist-shrouded slopes of Mauna Loa — the world’s tallest volcano — lies the upper Ha‘ao Valley, a place where cool upland clouds drift through ancient forest and spring water flows clear from the earth. It is here that Hawaiian Royal Tea is grown, harvested, and crafted by hand on our small Ka’u family homestead.
Our tea is not simply a product. It is the living expression of this land — shaped by volcanic soil, mountain rain, and the quiet rhythm of nature. Every cup reflects the harmony of place, the care of our hands, and the gratitude we hold for the ʻāina that sustains us.
A Family Legacy Rooted in the Land
For nearly five decades, our ʻohana has tended the Haʻao Valley with a deep sense of responsibility and reverence. What began as a humble homestead has grown into a rare Hawaiian tea farm — one grounded in stewardship, tradition, and the belief that true quality begins with honoring the land.
We farm using all-natural, no-till methods, allowing the soil to thrive and the ecosystem to flourish. No heavy machinery, no pesticides — only patient hands, careful observation, and an understanding that healthy tea begins with a healthy forest.
Our approach is simple:
Respect the land. Protect the soil. Harvest with gratitude. Craft with intention.
The Craft of Hawaiian Tea
Every Leaf Hand-Harvested. Every Batch Small and Intentional.
Creating fine Hawaiian loose-leaf tea is a delicate balance of timing, technique, and environmental harmony. Sunlight, rainfall, temperature, and the surrounding cloud forest all influence the character of each harvest.
We hand-pluck every leaf, process in micro-lots, and finish each style — black, green, oolong, white, or yellow — with methods refined through experience and devotion.
This is tea made slowly. Tea made thoughtfully. Tea made with reverence for the natural world.
The result is a collection of distinctive Hawaiian teas — vibrant, aromatic, and alive with the terroir of Kaʻu.
Taste the Essence of Hawaiʻi
Great tea invites you to pause… to breathe… to savor. Hawaiian Royal Tea offers more than flavor; it offers a moment of presence — one infused with the purity of mountain air, the grounding of volcanic earth, and the warmth of aloha.
Whether you enjoy a bold Black Tea, a delicate White Tea, or a rare Yellow Tea, each cup offers a sensory journey into Hawaiʻi’s upland forests.
From Our ʻOhana to Yours
We are honored to share Hawaiian Royal Tea with you — not just as a drink, but as a story, a landscape, and a connection to a place unlike any other.
From our homestead in Kaʻū to your cup…
Take time for gratitude. Take time for tea.
